Jerry’s Tree and Star – Christmas Lights that Dazzle
If you have ever driven on Interstate 35 in southern Minnesota after dark this time of year, chances are you have gazed upon Jerry’s tree. Jerry Lageson began stringing the thousands of white LED lights upon his tree during the Christmas of 2012. Since that time, over a million people have seen his display while traveling on the interstate. I love Jerry’s motto from the video below: “Life is not about the breaths you take but about the moments that take your breath away.”
When I look at Jerry’s lovely tree, so many adjectives come to mind to describe it. It is simple….breathtaking…elegant…mesmerizing. It think it has such an impact on people because it is so unexpected, especially the first time you see it. Imagine traveling for miles in darkness, bored and drained from your day, and then you come over a corner and there it is in all its beauty. Feelings of peace and wonder come over you and you awaken to a fresh start in your journey.
This year, Jerry has created something new in addition to his tree. A brilliant blue star now also lights up the sky. His gorgeous tree and star remind me to be still in the moment and take time to savor the beauty and wonder of this time of year. Thank you, Jerry!
If you want to get up close to Jerry’s tree and star, there is a side road that runs along the interstate. From Faribault, take County Road 45 (Albers Ave) south towards Medford. Turn right on 250th street. After you cross over the interstate, turn left on Ableman Trail. The display is just a mile up the road.
From Interstate 35, take the Medford exit. Go east into the town of Medford. Turn left on County Road 45. Go about four miles and turn left on 250th street. After you cross over the interstate, turn left on Ableman Trail. The display is just a mile up the road.
